Original Project

For my final project. I got to create anything I wanted. There were no parameters that I needed to follow. I just got to go with the flow on this.

My idea was to write a piece that uses synths. In my previous projects, I tended to stick to string instruments and woodwinds. I wanted to branch out from my comfort zone. I wanted to include electric drum kits, voices, synths and that is what I wanted to stick to, but if I need to be able to capture a sound that I cannot achieve with synths then I would use those instruments. I wanted to limit those instruments to only 2-3 tracks if possible. Nothing more. I wanted to go for a more upbeat piece than I usually would do. I wanted it to be relaxing yet catches your attention too, instead of just slowly making you tired (which is what I seem to normally do). I wanted it to be different than anything I had done in the course.

My first draft gave a sense in where I wanted to go. I knew I wanted to change a few things after I had completed it.

First Draft:

Here is what I wrote after I finished the draft:

-I don’t know if I want to keep the Underwater Stage Mk I sound. I’m trying to find another sound that meshes well with the rest of the tracks.

-Around bar 15 beat 4, I’m thinking of adding another track to not seem like it is getting old.

-Around the 36 mark, I’m going to have another track comes in, most likely a drum track, but am having a hard time of what I want it to sound like, and then continue to add tracks to make the audience feel like it is not dragging on because I know I have problems with that.

-It is definitely not where I want it to be at, but is a really good first draft. Tracks are missing, so it is not completely finished, but I am getting there.

-It doesn’t just end at mark 50. I want it to go longer, but I don’t really know what to do next, and how to wrap it all up. I want it to sound like one whole piece and not a collection of different sounds.

Final Piece:

I named my piece “Prepare Your Ears,” because I would always say that any time I had to share my work with my class…so why not name my final project after it!
